Sri Lanka - Ukraine political relations

Diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Ukraine were established in 1992. However, the relations between Sri Lanka and Ukraine goes back to the establishment of formal relations between Sri Lanka and the former USSR in 1957.

HE Mahinda Rajapaksa, then President of Sri Lanka paid an official visit to Ukraine in June 2010 and the visit strengthened the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka visited to Ukraine in June 2016, further enhance bilateral relations between the two countries. During to the above visit, three treaties were signed between Ukraine and Sri Lanka, on judicial cooperation, namely, Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners, and on Extradition.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka based in Ankara is accredited to Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine based in New Delhi is accredited to Sri Lanka. 

As per the records source, there are some Sri Lankan students are studying in Ukraine in various universities.

5. Agreement between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on Mutual Protection of Classified information 
6. Agreement between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for Air Services
7. Treaty on Extradition between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Ukraine
8. Treaty between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Ukraine on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters
